Johannesburg - South Africa will bid to host the 2013 Women's World Cup, SAFA chief executive officer Leslie Sedibe has revealed.
Following on the success of the 2010 World Cup and with the country hosting the 2010 African Women's Football Championship from 31 October to 14 November, Sedibe said he was excited by the prospect of hosting the next global showpiece.
He told the Sowetan: "We have been approached by FIFA to host the 2013 Women's World Cup.
"It is an honour for us to be approached by FIFA. FIFA and everybody are happy with the way we hosted the 2010 World Cup. We really did well as a country and continent.
"It is exciting for us to get the opportunity to bid for such a big tournament. Winning the bid will help us in the development of women's football in the South Africa.
"We are bidding for the tournament
Confederation of African Football deputy president Molefi Oliphant meanwhile felt it made sense to bid for the 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup qualification tournament.
