Johannesburg - Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Thabang "Chillies" Lebese says the standard of South African football has dropped tremendously over the last couple of years.
The hard-running player was part of the Amakhosi set-up for an extended period and played with the likes of Doctor Khumalo, Shakes Kungoane, Thabo Mooki, Pollen Ndlanya, Jacob Brian Baloyi and many others.
He tells the Siya crew that he no longer enjoys watching local football as it played at a dull pace with no individual brilliance like in his day.
“I cannot even tell you who my favourite player is. Don’t tell me about today’s players. Even the player we put our hopes on, Teko Modise, does not do it for me. He’s only good when he has the ball. What about off-the-ball running? There is a lot that needs to be done,” said Lebese.
The 36-year-old Lebese, who also played for Orlando Pirates, also revealed that, contrary to popular belief, he hasn’t retired from the game, “I’m available for any team that needs my service. I’m as fit as a fiddle and I believe I can still do the job.”
