Ismailia - Ghana beat South Africa 2-1 after extra time Tuesday to reach the quarterfinals of the Under-20 World Cup.

Kermit Erasmus put South Africa ahead, Andre Ayew equalized and Dominic Adiyiah hit a brilliant dipping shot from 25metres in the ninth minute of extra time to send Ghana through to the last eight, where they will face South Korea.

Erasmus scored in the 58th minute, beating Ghana's defence and rounding goalkeeper Daniel Agyei to prompt wild celebrations on the team's bench and a somersault from Erasmus.

Ayew headed home powerfully in the 66th.

Ghana striker Opoku Agyemang received a second yellow card and was sent off near the end of extra time for diving.

Host Egypt plays Costa Rica, and Hungary faces the Czech Republic in later games.

their timid mentality to me lost them that game. Ghana boys were much much better than us in terms of their mental preparedness. our boys need to have big hearts. i listened to Marawa show after the game hearing people praising those boys, how can we praise failure.losing in the last 16 is a failure to me.i ended up asking myself a question of whether or not we have become so accustomed to losing that we celebrate failure. but i take nothing away from the boys they tried but there is a lot of things that need to be done. for instance our wingers get into space inside the 18 yeard area and they choose to shoot (while the angle is tight) instead of playing the ball across for a teammate who is in a better position.we play too much township football.to me the mental and physical fitness is an issue, including tactical flexibility.i hope we will fix these things.

These Tokoloshes can really play just that their game plan was less poor than the Ghanians. We intended to kill Ghana on early moments therefore opting to play fast and tiring football. We managed to score one goal instead of many. It was a good plan but hardly could have worked for the team that can not score. Later on we got tired and allowed the pacy less Ghana to overcome us when we can not defend and attack. Extra time was even a nightmare to our shorties as all of them were tired. Now, this is the only problem for all our soccer national teams, They start with pace and trying desperately to score and if they can't score maybe in the first half or early in the second (as many international teams now understand) they get frustrated and commit silly mistakes, then we are punished. Sometimes we must change game plans that are not working, Barker's team did not play fast football that confused even themselves. But players like Doctor and Shoes could playmake the whole game.

Well, if I were SAFA, the small boys will be sent straight to Zimbabwe for the COSAFA games tournament coming up this month. I would add a few more chaps from local teams and let them go. Just wait to hear who will get selected. South Africa has to learn that to be the best, you must stamp your authority from home, meaning the COSAFA tournament should be the start! And they should not struggle to achieve that! They are never sure if they will beat the likes of Swaziland, Botswna, Namibia, etc.

Why don`t we just take this team to 2010?? They look like they actually WANT to play

If Bafana x 2 want to sort out their goal scoring problems, they should promote Kermit Erasmus. That kid is a natural in front of goals.

ok we lost to a better team but im proud of the way the boys played throughout the tournament but one thing that they must work on is the fouls they commited.even if we were to beat ghana we would have three of our players on the stands because they picked three yellow cards.

bravooooooooo magents. welll done. hope u grow as a unit through the ranks of the national team until you reach the snr level (at least see 70% of you playing as a team in the snr level in future).

Well done you reduced world cup players like Ado to ordinary players. This is a defeat we must accept. The future of Bafana Bafana is broght with you as long Santana is not INVOLVED. Young talent is groomed by local coaches only for useless foreign coaches to come and destroy promising talent. What a shame.

Well done boys. You fought hard, and can come home proud. Just wish Bafana could show some goal scoring abilities like you guys.

Now here is the kind of a loss that I can accept...when a team lose fighting. Well done boys...better luck next time
