Real chase Gerrard, Maicon

2010-06-02 11:29

Madrid - Real Madrid are close to signing Steven Gerrard and Maicon, according to Spanish media reports on Wednesday.

Sports daily Marca had a picture of Liverpool captain Gerrard on its front page on Wednesday, with the headline "Warm, Warm."

Marca said that Real president Florentino Perez "has already chosen" Gerrard to be the "star of his second super production," meaning his second season in charge since returning to the club presidency exactly a year ago.

Marca, which is notoriously close to Perez, added as an afterthought that the signing of Gerrard "has the approval of Jose Mourinho," Real's new coach.

The Portuguese coach was quoted as saying about Gerrard, who turned 30 on Sunday, that "I like players at the end of their careers."

According to the Spanish media, one of the conditions that Mourinho had for accepting the Real job was that he would basically be in charge of deciding who to buy and sell.

Perez spent a staggering 260 million euros (317.92 million dollars) on eight players, without consulting with coach Manuel Pellegrini, a year ago.

Pellegrini was sacked last week after a trophy-less season, in order to make room for Mourinho.

According to media reports, Perez is prepared to splash out up to 200 million euros this season, which would again make the whites the biggest spenders in world football.

Meanwhile, AS, the rival sports daily to Marca, said that Real are very close to signing Brazilian right-back Maicon from European champions Inter Milan, following a request from Mourinho.

According to AS, Mourinho is also interested in Daniele De Rossi of Roma, Lazio's Aleksandar Kolarov and Angel Di Maria of Benfica.Author: Duncan Shaw

Not a chance Mo can get him. But the good news is that there's probably going to be some really good players available for transfer as Mo starts his changes. Bad news is we probably couldn't afford any of them.

Just as i predicted.....now Liverpool are really stuffed. Mid table for you next season if your are lucky!!!!!!

  • ZeeZee - 2010-06-02 13:25

Bye Bye Stevie G. U should've packed up years ago. All credited to you for sticking with your club, but your trophy cabinet isn't exactly bulging at the seams. Although, i don't see Real wining anything in the upcoming season either.

  • Go Gerrard Go - 2010-06-02 13:29

I would love to see Gerrard go. LFC is bankruped and has sh!t supporters. They not in Europe this year so they will lose a lot of players!

  • TRUE Red - 2010-06-02 14:04

Stevie is LFC through & through, so I'm not quite sure. Until we have new owner's who are willing to invest in the club, i.e. give Rafa real money for proper player's, I wouldn't be suprised if any of the big boys left. I'm pretty sure Masch will be going to Barca this time & El Nino, who knows ? IF they do stay, then WOW, TRUE loyalty ! One thing Stevie needs to remember - Real took Macca, Owen, Dudek, Alonso & Arbeloa from us in recent year's - they ended up going from superstar's at Anfield to being bench player's - whose to say the same won't happen to him ?

  • @go gerrard go - 2010-06-02 14:09

You must obviously be a Manu supported and they are no better off with their DEBT PROBLEMS and the red knights who seem to have woken up from their wet dream of buying the club from the Glazers as they dont seem to have enough money either

"LFC ... has sh!t supporters." Maybe the only ones you know are South Africans... you sap! Get out of your lager some time.

  • LFC FAN - 2010-06-02 17:23

IF HE WANTS TO GO THEN LET HIM. LIVERPOOL NEEDS A CHANGE. IF THAT MEANS TORRES GOES AS WELL SO BE IT. HE SPENT HALF OF LAST SEASON INJURED ANYWAY. LIVERPOOL ISN'T ABOUT INDIVIDUALS!!

Liverpool supporters are in denial, that boy is as good as gone.
