Palmer named Santos coach

Cape Town - National First Division outfit Santos have appointed Ian Palmer as their new coach, the club confirmed on Monday.

Palmer was sacked by Premiership side Black Leopards last week following s string of poor results, before the former Maritzburg United boss was snapped up by Santos, who were on the look out for a replacement for Dutch coach Mart Nooij.

“Following a substandard start to the NFD season, Santos chairperson (Goolam Allie), believes a change in the management may reignite the once formidable PSL side and spark hope of a comeback, trailing the leaders by only 11 points,” the club said in a statement.

“Having played himself, and having coached a number of South African based sides, his knowledge of the local game is most definitely going to be an advantage to The Peoples' Team heading into the second round.

“We would like to wish Ian Palmer all the best as he takes the reigns in what we hope, will be a successful spell with the boys in yellow.”
