Zungu not rushing his return

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Bongani Zungu is close to returning to the field of play after a three month injury lay-off, but won't take any chances.

The South African international who's in his last season at the Brazilians after signing a pre-contract with Primeira Liga outfit Vitoria Guimaraes suffered a fracture in his shin during a 3-2 win over Maritzburg United in January and is nearing a return to full fitness, but Zungu admits he wants to take it slow to avoid the risk of further setbacks.

"I went for an X-ray two weeks ago and things are looking good, but I took a personal decision not to rush back. So we gave it three more weeks and the club is fine with that," the 23-year old The Sowetan.

"The thing is clubs don't control players in terms of rushing them back, but I think sometimes as players we are the ones who want to rush back.

"In 2009, I rushed back from injury and I broke down after just one game. I was still playing amateur football. My concern is rushing back and breaking down again, hence I decided to give this more time."
