Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker Bongani Zungu has revealed his inspiration: Manchester City and Ivory Coast midfielder Yaya Toure.
Zungu’s impressive form for the Brazilians has made him into one of the Premier Soccer League’s hottest properties, with an overseas move seemingly beckoning for the 23-year-old former University of Pretoria star.
The Bafana Bafana international told Soccer Laduma that the likes of Toure and Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba serve as inspiration.
"You know; Yaya is my role model. His words have always encouraged me so to be compared to him and Pogba is a great honour. It also pushes me to keep on working hard to achieve what they have achieved as players."
Despite the player’s undoubted promise, he has scored only one league goal in the last three seasons, and concedes this area is a weakness in his game.
"If you look at the position I play, I do need to be scoring more goals. At times I create chances for my teammates to score and that is sometimes just as good as scoring. But I am working on improving my scoring."
