Wits unlikely to sign Gamal long-term

Cape Town - The chances of Bidvest Wits signing Egypt international striker Amr Gamal are growing increasingly unlikely due to the Absa Premiership champion's poor domestic form.

Gamal, 26, arrived at Wits in the off-season on a season-long loan with forward Phakamani Mahlambi heading in the opposite direction to Al Ahly.

Eager to stamp his name on the South African game, the 18-time capped Egypt striker has displayed his abilities as a complete forward thanks to his pace, anticipation, off the ball movement and aerial ability.

But with the Students languishing in last place in the 16-team table, Gamal has been restricted, scoring only two goals in 11 games.

However, his three goals in four Telkom Knockout fixtures earlier in the season proved his ability, despite the language barrier and poor form of the Students.

According to Egyptian publication KingFut and Soccer Laduma, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane is keen on bringing Gamal to Chloorkop at the end of his loan deal in Braamfontein.

KingFut also reported the Al Ahly youth product does have a buy-out clause with his loan agreement, and the Clever Boys are unlikely to block any deal if their struggles continue this season.
