Wits to pile pressure on Sundowns

Cape Town - Chippa United will hope to claim the scalp of Bidvest Wits when the teams meet at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

Chippa snapped a two-game losing streak in the league by defeating Bloemfontein Celtic 2-1 at home on December 18.

The Eastern Cape side has claimed 13 points from seven home matches this season.

The Chilli Boys are placed ninth on the Absa Premiership log with 16 points from 12 matches.

Wits suffered just their second defeat of the season when they went down 2-1 at Kaizer Chiefs on December 19.

The Johannesburg side has claimed 10 points from six away matches this season.

The Clever Boys are placed second on the Absa Premiership log with 26 points from 12 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Chippa and Wits have met in four league matches since 2012/13.

The teams have a dead-even record, with a win each, two draws and four goals scored apiece.

Chippa are unbeaten at home against Wits, with a win and a draw from two matches.

Last season the Chilli Boys took four points off the Clever Boys, winning 2-1 at home before playing out a goalless stalemate away.

No player has scored more than one goal across the teams’ four league meetings.

Kick-off is at 15:30 Sunday, January 10.
