Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana striker Mark Williams supports Kaizer Chiefs' decision to offload fringe players as they look to revamp their squad in preparation for next season.
Following their disappointing 2015/16 Premiership campaign, finishing without a trophy and 25 points behind league champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Amakhosi announced last week that they were parting ways with up to 20 players in the off-season.
Williams, who played for the Glamour Boys between 1996 and 1998, believes that was the right call, adding that a big club such as Chiefs deserves quality players.
"The club had to do that if they are to compete with Sundowns next season," Williams told Times Live.
"Some of the players they are releasing were not really quality. That is the truth. We are talking a bout a big team here.
"Twala was the only player in the whole team who played like he understood the tradition of the Kaizer Chiefs jersey‚" he added.
