WATCH: Cape Town City - from 'misfits' to champions

Cape Town - Cape Town City have released a short film documenting their maiden season in the PSL that has seen a team labeled as 'misfits' becoming champions.

City entered the unknown when the newly formed Cape-based side joined the league in it's maiden campaign.

The team consisted of a mixture of overseas-based players and others labelled as 'misfits' looking to resurrect their career. Many were expecting the Citizens to struggle with their target set at avoiding relegation.

All these obstacles though seemed to have forged a togetherness within the club as it continues to exceed all possible expectations while fighting for the league title.

Eric Tinkler's men have lit up the PSL while reinvigorating soccer in the Mother City as fans have longed for a competitive team in the league.

City are currently a mere two points off the top of the table - behind leaders Bidvest Wits - with four games left in the season and are strong contenders to lift the PSL trophy.

The season though will still be regarded as an overwhelming success for the Citizens even if they don't manage to win the league as they've already lifted the Telkom Knockout Cup.

They also boast one of the most exciting brands of soccer in the league and a candidate for Player of the Season in Lebogang Manyama.

City next welcome Free State Stars to Cape Town Stadium on Friday and will be looking to put pressure on fellow title contenders Wits and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Kick off is at 20:00.
