Walters: People will take us seriously

Cape Town - Having dislodged Bidvest Wits from the top of the standings, Black Aces goalkeeper Shu-aib Walters feels that its time to pay AmaZayoni some respect.

The Mpumalanga team came from a goal down to beat the Clever Boys 2-1 at the Bidvest Stadium, in the process replacing Gavin Hunt's side as the top ranked team in the league.

While the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns have dominated recent title chases, with teams like Wits there or there abouts, these are uncharted waters as Aces lead the way near the half point of the season.

Walters played his part with a series of crucial saves, and was an emotional man after the final whistle in Johannesburg on Friday night.

"I think I knew I had my work cut out for me tonight, but I also knew that if we could overcome this game then we'd be on course for the quarter [Q-Innovation 3] prize.

"I have tears in my ears because it was a very important game for us, and I knew that if we could overcome this then people will take us seriously.

"We're still underdogs at the moment," said the Cape Town-born shot stopper.
