Vanishing spray disappears from PSL

Cape Town - The Premier Soccer League have revealed that referees may no longer use vanishing spray after a trial period was conducted and a decision was reached.

The white spray, which is used to mark out where free-kicks are to be taken, was introduced across the globe after it was successfully employed at the 2014 Soccer World Cup.

The PSL introduced the spray, which vanishes just seconds after use, at the start of the 2015/16 campaign.

However, it appears the idea could be set to vanish from the playing fields of South Africa's top flight indefinitely.

Officials in Mzansi have not been using the spray in 2016/17, indicating its use may be phased out for good.

PSL chief operating officer Ronnie Schloss confirmed to KickOff: "It was just experimenting and it was up to the board of governors to decide to use it or not.

"It is still the decision that the board has to make. It's not used all over the world and a lot of countries aren't using it. We got it tested and as I have said, a lot of countries don't use it."
