Van Heerden best Masilela replacement

Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana defender Bradley Carnell has earmarked Marc van Heerden as the best candidate to succeed left-back Tsepo Masilela at Kaizer Chiefs.

The 30-year-old Masilela has been injury prone of late and Chiefs may be tempted to search for a replacement in the not-too-distant future.

Having also played for Chiefs in the past, Carnell has advised the Premiership champions to make a move for Van Heerden from the relegated AmaZulu in the NFD.

"Yes, Masilela is aging, but he is still performing very well and I think he has a lot to offer. My only worry about him is injuries, but as long as he is fit then there is no problem," Carnell told Goal website.

"The left-back position has been a problem at Chiefs, I think before me there was David Nyathi, who was able to make the position his own.

"Then there is also Masilela, who has been very consistent since arriving. But then if there are worries about the fitness of Masilela a player like Van Herdeen is an option for Chiefs.

"He is experienced and has been performing well at the highest level consistently. The other good thing about him is his ability to score from dead balls."
