Tributes pour in for Cele

Cape Town - Heartfelt tributes have been pouring in from players across the Absa Premiership following the tragic passing of Maritzburg United midfielder Mondli Cele.

Cele passed away in the early hours of Sunday morning after helping his side to a 3-3 draw with Orlando Pirates on Saturday evening.

Team of Choice team-mate John Paintsil told his club's official website: "For me, it is a big shock because he is more of like my son. He's very close to me. At the moment, I don't know what to say, my heart is broke, I'm hurt."

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane: "Words cannot describe our reaction when we received the sad news ahead of our match against Celtic on Sunday morning.

"We got shocked and drew strength from the Almighty for granting us an opportunity to have shared the life and times with Cele, both on and off the field of play.

"He was a fine gentleman of sports. On behalf of the Chiefs players, I wish to extend my deepest heartfelt condolences to his friends and family."

"It's really sad to hear this that umkhaya Wami Mondli Cele passed away last nite RIP boy u will be remembered," wrote Orlando Pirates' Ayanda Gcaba.
