Tinkler hails 'phenomenal' City

Cape Town - Cape Town City coach Eric Tinkler has lauded his team for their remarkable achievement in winning the Telkom Knockout final against SuperSport United.

The Citizens overcame Matsatsantsa last Saturday courtesy of goals by Aubrey Ngoma and Judas Moseamedi in a 2-1 victory. Kingston Nkhatha got the consolation goal for United.

City's win has been hailed as a huge achievement due to the fact the club only formed at the start of the 2016/17 campaign, after taking over the Premiership status of Mpumalanga Black Aces.

In addition, the Mother City-based outfit currently top the Premiership standings and enjoy a three point lead over SuperSport in second position.

As such, Tinkler expressed his delight at the progress the John Comitis-owned team are making.

He told reporters: "The character they've shown over the past four months of work, the determination that they showed. I'm very proud with what we achieved here in a short space of time.

"Right from day one when we beat Polokwane City. Since then I saw something special and four months later you lift your first trophy, it's phenomenal."
