Cape Town - Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler believes Bidvest Wits have what it takes to snatch the league title from Mamelodi Sundowns' grasp.
The Students beat Pirates 1-0 on Wednesday night to move to within four points of Sundowns, who were shocked in a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Bloemfontein Celtic.
And with Gavin Hunt's side looking set to crash out of the CAF Confederation Cup this weekend (they trail Azam 3-0 after the first leg ahead of the second leg in Tanzania on Sunday), Tinkler believes the lighter workload could give the Students the edge in league title race.
"Wits are a good team and stand a good chance of winning the league," Tinkler was quoted as saying by KickOff.
"I think possibly the fact that focus for them will probably shift purely onto the Nedbank Cup and the local league and not the Confederation Cup, that might help them.
"They don't have to struggle with the journeys and it will all depend how far Sundowns go in the competition [the CAF Champions League]."
"It can hurt them because what many people don't take into consideration is that it is not like Europe where you play a Champions League [game] and you fly two hours.
"We [Pirates] were sometimes 25 or 28 hours in transit just to get in to our destination," he concluded.
