Tembo out to rebuild relegation threatened SuperSport

Cape Town - Caretaker coach, Kaitano Tembo, believes he will turnaround SuperSport United's fortunes by the end of the season.

The Pretoria club is languishing in 14th spot on the Absa Premiership table after a challenging campaign under Eric Tinkler, who was sacked earlier this month.

There were rumours that all was not well in the Matsatsantsa camp under the tutelage of Tinkler with the players frustrated by his training methods and sub-par tactics compared to previous coach Stuart Baxter.

Tembo now is tasked with rebuilding the club after Tinkler resigned ten months into his three-year contract with the club languishing three points off the relegation zone.

While their survival is at the top of Tembo's agenda he has to momentarily shift his focus to their continental commitments.

The former Zimbabwe defender is busy preparing, Matsatsantsa for their CAF Confederation Cup, first round, second-leg clash against Petro Luanda this Friday.

The two sides played to a goalless draw in the first-leg in Angola earlier this month under the watch of Tembo.

Tembo says he will repay the faith shown to him by club management.

"I really appreciate the confidence shown by the club in giving me this opportunity," Tembo said ahead of the clash at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.

"They could have gone with anyone else because we are in a difficult situation. I don't think it is easier, if I had taken the team in mid-table then I could have still made mistakes but there is no room for mistakes," he added.

Tembo says his main focus is to get the team playing a winning brand of football again.

"I am not going to really think about what happens after this season. The most important thing is to bring back the team to winning ways and play the football we are used to. At the same time, get the desired results to take us out of the relegation zone," Tembo concluded.
