Sundowns rout hapless Pirates

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns defeated Orlando Pirates 6-0 in an Absa Premiership game at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Despite the victory, the Brazilians stay fifth on the league log, while the Buccaneers remain 10th on the table.

The visitors threatened first through Pirates midfielder Gift Motupa, who sent through on goal two minutes into the game, but he hit the upright.

Bucs were left to rue that chance as in-form midfielder Themba Zwane hit the back of the net from close range to make it 1-0 to Sundowns.

The Brazilians doubled their lead through Percy Tau three minutes before the half-time break following a good move by Pitso Mosimane's men.

The home side were deservedly leading 2-0 during the half-time break on a sunny Saturday afternoon in the nation's capital, Pretoria.

Sundowns continued their dominance in the second-half and they extended their lead through Ricardo Nascimento, who scored from spot-kick in the 62nd minute.

Thapelo Morena then grabbed two quick goals for Sundowns in the 69th minute and 75th minute with the Buccaneers defence exposed.

His teammate Tau also completed his brace with nine minutes left on the clock and the Brazilians held on to register a shocking 6-0 win over Pirates.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
