Cape Town - Mamelodi
Sundowns are reportedly stepping up their interest in securing the
signature of Racing Genk and Bafana Bafana defender Anele Ngcongca, and
it seems the club are willing to shell out close to R5 million to push
through a deal.
It was previously reported both Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs were keen to sign Ngcongca in time for the new season, however the player still has two years remaining on his current deal in Belgium, which could potentially put paid to a move.
The player has fallen out favour with coach Peter Maes, though, and it's thought that Genk are willing to listening to offers. It remains to be seen what price the club could ask for, although a mutual termination is said to be an option.
Should Ngcongca become a free agent then he undoubtedly would not be short of offers - Soccer Laduma are reporting that Sundowns are first in line with an offer of a contract package believed to be in the region of R5 million.
If a deal was to happen, it would make him one of the highest paid players in the Premier Soccer League. Nonetheless, at this stage it appears the decision on Ngcongca's future rests with Genk despite widespread interest from South Africa and Europe in the player's services.
