Solinas: Poor officiating cost us

Cape Town - Free State Stars coach Giovanni Solinas believes the referee may have cost them valuable points in their 1-0 loss to Maritzburg United on Tuesday night.

Ea La Koto had two penalty appeals denied by the referee during the game at Goble Park, as the Team of Choice secured a vital three points in their bid to retain their Premiership status.

"I’m proud of my team," Solinas told his club’s official website. "The boys did well, but poor officiating cost us the match today.

"We should have had two penalties. They were not given. These things happen in football, so we move on.

"We dominated the match throughout but we were not clinical enough in front of goal. Maritzburg had one chance and they took it.

"We still have a lot to play for. The focus is now on our next match against Arrows and hopefully we can return to winning ways."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
