Shongwe could be included in Mobara swap deal

Cape Town - A host of Bidvest Wits players could be used as a make-weight in a deal with Orlando Pirates that would see Abubakar Mobara move to the Clever Boys.

Midfielders Jabulani Shongwe, Ben Motshwari or Phumlani Tshangase could be used in a swap deal for the versatile Mobara who has previously been linked with a move to the PSL champions.

A deal could be struck between the two clubs where two or all of the three want-away midfielders could leave or a straight swap for captain Thulani Hlatshwayo.

Hlatshwayo recently admitted to being a boyhood Buccaneers fan and still held ambitions to play in a Soweto derby.

Meanwhile Wits CEO Jose Ferreira revealed that the club is yet to receive any bids for the transfer-linked Shongwe.

Shogwe has been linked with moves to both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates for well over a year now and with less than 12 months left on his contract the rumours are only getting stronger, but nothing concrete has materialised as yet.

"Jabulani Shongwe is in his last year with us. We gave him and his agent an undertaking at the end of last season that if a good opportunity came around that we would look at it," Fereira told KickOff.

"There have been some informal inquiries but nothing of any significance at this stage, but we will afford him an opportunity [to move on] if a good deal for him comes our way.

"We had a few offers, some of which didn't interest us while others didn't interest the player, but we'll see. We've still got time until August 31 and I'm sure something will happen by then.

"If nothing happens then he will be incorporated into the squad for this season."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
