Shongwe calls for Wits focus

Cape Town - Bidvest Wits midfielder Jabulani Shongwe has urged his teammates to forget about their Nedbank Cup exit and focus on the Absa Premiership title race.

The university club were knocked out of the cup by Free State Stars on penalties in the quarterfinals.

Wits only have the league to play for after their elimination and some ground to cover as they are six points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.

"Yes, we are very disappointed after being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup. We gave our best, but unfortunately things did not go our way," Shongwe told Goal website.

"We have to put the Nedbank Cup behind us because we lost and there is nothing we can do about it.

"The race is not over and anything can still happen. So, we have to make sure that we win all our remaining matches. We just have to forget about Sundowns and their lead and focus on winning our matches."

Wits face SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday as they look to keep their Absa Premiership title hopes alive. The Clever Boys trail leaders Sundowns by six points with just five games remaining in the league campaign.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
