Shabba: We needed that win

Cape Town - After having lost the Telkom Knockout final to Mamelodi Sundowns in midweek, Kaizer Chiefs were desperate for a win against table-topping Bidvest Wits in Cape Town on Saturday.

And they got the result they needed p a the 2-1 scoreline enough to secure three valuable log points.

Wits coach Gavin Hunt had plenty to say about the refereeing after the match, but the result has calmed the waters at Chiefs somewhat and they now go into the Christmas break just five points off the pace in the race for league honours.

Captain Siphiwe Tshabalala, who missed a penalty in the TKO defeat to Sundowns, spoke afterwards about how big the result was for his side.

"That was the last game of the year and we needed to end on a high so that when we come back from the break, we are confident in our first game," he told Soccer Laduma.

"The win was very important and we did very well to fight for that win. Everyone wanted to win and we deserved it."
