Sankara, Nyatama see Celtic to victory

Cape Town - Goals from Robert Sankara and Musa Nyatama saw Bloemfontein Celtic defeat Baroka FC 2-1 in an Absa Premiership clash at Dr Molemela Stadium on Wednesday.

Celtic got off to the perfect start when they claimed the lead as early as the third minute. Dumisani Zuma provided a fine ball into the danger area from a set piece and Robert Sankara finished with his right foot to put the hosts ahead.

Baroka almost hit back straight away, with Tshepiso Lietsisa firing an effort on goal direct from a free kick, but Celtic goalkeeper Ayanda Mtshali made a fine diving save.

The Limpopo side kept knocking at the door and on the half hour mark they were rewarded with an equalising goal, as Mzwanele Mahashe provided an assist for Mathari Mothupa to make it 1-1 with a fine finish.

The match had a lightning-enforced break just a few minutes before the scheduled interval, with the half ending level at 1-1.

Just as in the first stanza, Phunya Sele Sele began the second on the front foot and reclaimed the lead four minutes after the restart. Midfielder Musa Nyatama fired home from Atusaye Ntondo’s assist to put his side 2-1 up.

Baroka looked for a quick reply, but both Mfundhisi Chauke and Mzwanele Mahashe put headers off target a few minutes before the hour mark.

The visitors threw everything they had at Celtic in the dying minutes, but Mtshali and his defence were solid in protecting their lead.
