Sangweni laments pitch conditions

East London - Chippa United midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni says their fixture against Golden Arrows was ruined due to slippery conditions on the pitch.

The Chilli Boys and Abafanabesthende shared the spoils in an Absa Premiership encounter at the Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday.

The results saw Chippa’s top 8 finish ambitions take a back seat.

Sangweni was left disappointed with the draw but remains hopeful that United will clinch a top 8 spot at the end of the campaign.

“Eish, honestly speaking I am disappointed with a draw,” said Sangweni.

“We played very well but we didn’t score goals, and you don’t win games if you don’t score.

“We wanted all the three points as a team so that we could maintain our top 8 spot.

“It was raining the whole night before our game and the pitch was not good enough for us to play our normal game.

“But we really tried our best but we’ll just settle for one point and hopefully we’ll do better in our next game.”

Chippa will face Orlando Pirates in their next league installment at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday, April 11.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
