Johannesburg - Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands believes Justice Chabalala's presence was significant in helping the Buccaneers keep Kaizer Chiefs at bay following yet another Soweto derby stalemate.
The Soweto perennial rivals shared the spoils in a less entertaining Absa Premiership encounter played at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Sandilands insisted that Chabalala - who was making his first appearance of the season - will be a pillar of strength at the heart of the Pirates defence this season.
"He (Chabalala) did a fantastic job at the back. It was his first start of the season and he did tremendously well," said Sandilands.
"There was even a ball that came into the box and he did a calm clearance with his back heel. I really appreciate his work rate and I believe that he's a guy we'll be relying on this season.
"He is also a valuable member of the team and he came when we needed him most."
Sandilands also expressed his delight after making his maiden appearance in the eagerly anticipated Soweto derby.
"It was a very special moment, I can't express this feeling in words. But I felt privileged to be part of that amazing game. I'm also grateful because I managed to keep a clean sheet," he said.
