Rusike's double sees Maritzburg demolish Baroka

Cape Town - Maritzburg United continued their Absa Premiership resurgence after a stunning 3-0 demolition of high-flying Baroka FC at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday.

Evans Rusike scored a sublime double in the 31st and 53rd minutes, with Siphesihle Ndlovu adding a third shortly after to seal a fine win.

The result lifted the 'Team of Choice' up to fifth on the standings. Baroka, who lost 4-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns in midweek, lost a place and fell to fourth.

In what was a fairly even first-half, Maritzburg's best opening came from Mohau Mokate, which saw his shot fly just wide of the right upright.

Just after the half-hour, Olaleng Shaku conceded possession on the Team of Choice's right flank and his team-mates allowed the ball to be carried forward by Mokate, who picked out Rusike.

The Zimbabwean delivered a stunning finish after spinning past two defenders in the box.

Bakgaga tried to respond before the break, but their best chance was tamely headed at goalkeeper Richard Ofori by Shaku. After the break, Siphelele Ntshangase powered a free-kick narrowly wide, before a superb 13-minute period for the hosts.

Rusike then doubled the lead by executing a fine finish into the top left hand corner.

Ndlovu then added his name to the score sheet after 66 minutes when Siyanda Xulu and Lebohang Maboe combined on the left and played in their team-mate, who danced his way into the box and squeezed beyond a stranded Virgil Vries.

The goal sealed the win and with it a fine three points for the hosts, who beat Cape Town City 4-2 in midweek for their first victory since August.
