Rewards loom for Sundowns stars

Pretoria - Prior to their much-anticipated CAF Champions League final second-leg encounter between Mamelodi Sundowns and Zamalek, Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula has confirmed that he will reward the Brazilians for their exploits in pursuit of continental glory.

Bafana Ba Style will be looking to complete the mission ‘impossible’ when they square off against the Egyptian giants at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Cairo on Sunday.

Kick-off for this clash is set for 20:30 (SA time).

Mbalula, 45, did not disclose how much the Ministry would reward each player citing that Sundowns’ mission to conquer Africa is not entirely about money, but national and club pride as well.

However, the former African National Congress Youth League president backed Sundowns to bring home the prestigious trophy.

“Yes they will be rewarded for their tremendous achievements,” insisted Mbalula.

“They really deserved it and they have done well for the country and themselves, just like Orlando Pirates.

“At this stage we might not say how much we are going to give each player, we can’t just say R50 000 per player because being in the final for them is not all about money, but it’s all about pride.

“But one thing I know for sure is that our Ministry will reward them and they must just go out there in Cairo and complete the mission.”

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
