Rampant SuperSport march on in Confed Cup

Cape Town - SuperSport United overturned a one-goal deficit from the first-leg as they defeated Al Ahly Shendi 4-0 on Sunday to progress in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The visitors got off to a flying start and almost took the lead in the first minute, but goalkeeper Ronwen Williams did enough to deny the onrushing attacker.

SuperSport gradually got into their rhythm and had their first effort on target in the seventh minute through Thabo Mnyamane's fierce half-volley, which went narrowly wide of the target.

Mnyamane proved instrumental for the hosts in the opening exchanges and caused the Shendi defence all sorts of problems with his pace and trickery.

However, United were dealt a huge blow in the 27th minute when veteran midfielder Reneilwe Letsholonyane was forced off with an injury and was replaced by Teboho Mokoena.

The Premiership club broke the deadlock in the 41st minute when Tefu Mashamaite rose highest to head home Mnyamane's well-taken free-kick.

Things went form bad to worse for the Sudanese outfit as Abaker managed to put the ball in the back of his own net to hand SuperSport a one-goal lead in the overall tie.

United continued to attack the Shendi goal and added a third courtesy of Nkhatha after Mokoena put him through on goal with a fine pass.

They continued to probe and substitute Modiba grabbed his first goal for the club when he blasted the ball past the goalkeeper after being teed up by Jeremy Brockie.
