Pule's late goal sees Wits crowned TKO champions

Cape Town - Wits are the Telkom Knockout champions after beating Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 in the final played at Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban.

The start of the match saw a cagey approach from both teams and the first bit of action arrived in the 25th minute when Gabadinho Mhango's cross took a deflection onto the upright.

Amr Gamal was unable to make contact as the ball bounced back into play.

No real further action took place in the half and the teams went into half-time locked at 0-0.

The second half followed much the same pattern as the first, with little action to speak of.

Darren Keet was forced into a fingertip save in the 61st minute while Celtic striker Victor Letsoalo header rebounded off the crossbar in the 63rd minute.

Wits took the lead in the dying minutes with Vincent Pule providing the crucial goal with a neat flick with Gamal providing the assist.

And that was enough for Wits to be crowned Telkom Knockout Champions for 2017, a real boost for a club suffering at present in the ABSA Premiership.
