Probe underway into FNB Stadium stampede

Cape Town - The probe into the recent FNB Stadium stampede has started with senior counsel advocate Vincent Maleka requesting witnesses to send in as much information as they can.

The incident saw two fans lose their lives during Kaizer Chiefs' clash with Orlando Pirates in the annual pre-season Carling Black Label Cup competition.

Maleka, who has reportedly represented the likes of the ANC and Economic Freedom Fighters leader, Julius Malema, in seperate legal issues, was appointed to lead the investigation by local football authorities.

As such, the married father of two admitted he is a football fan and has asked witnesses to come forward if they were present at the time of the stampede.

"I am from Mamelodi, that's where I grew up but it doesn't mean I am a (Mamelodi) Sundowns fan. I follow soccer," he told the SowetanLIVE website

"We would like to invite anyone who has information that can assist in the preparation of the report to bring it to our attention."
