Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane believes the experience of his team allowed them to claim maximum points against Ajax Cape Town in their 2-1 win at the Cape Town Stadium on Tuesday.
The Brazilians were put on the back foot in the early stages of the match as the Urban Warriors kept their shape and attacked the Absa Premiership giants.
Ajax were rewarded for their tenacity when SuperSport United loanee Fagrie Lakay slotted home for the home side in the 26th minute to give Muhsin Ertugral’s charges a deserved lead.
However, Sundowns scored two goals in quick succession before the half-time whistle through a Ricardo Nascimento spot-kick and well worked goal finished off by Sibusiso Vilakazi.
“It was a good response, they showed integrity,” Mosimane told SuperSport TV.
“They showed that they have the experience to manage a game. We managed the game very well in the second-half.
“We didn't play pretty football in the last 20 minutes, that's Champions League experience.
“I'm happy with the mentality you know, unlike when we play expansive in the last 10 minutes and then they get a break and score.”
Mosimane added: “What's important for us is our away record which is good. Our goal difference is good, two goals per game is good.”
The victory ensured Sundowns opened up a four-point lead over Cape Town City and can further distance themselves from the chasing pack when they welcome Orlando Pirates to Loftus Versfeld on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 15:30.
