Pitso hopeful of Onyango recovery

Cape Town - Pitso Mosimane admits the injury to Denis Onyango is worrying and hopes he will recover in time for their fixture against Orlando Pirates on Wednesday.

The Ugandan shot-stopper was ruled out of their 5-2 thrashing of Free State Stars this weekend after suffering a knee injury in training, and 32-year old Wayne Sandilands deputized in his absence.

"Onyango had a problem with his knee. We didn't want to risk it, because we've got Wayne Sandilands and we've got to trust him," Mosimane said in the post-match interview.

"Wayne did a very good job so hopefully Onyango will be back against Pirates."

The former Bafana Bafana head coach also paid tribute to the Brazilians' recent goal-scoring form, with his side averaging three goals a game in their last five fixtures.

"I'm not worried about the goals we conceded. I'm more worried about the five," he continued. "I always tell the guys that what is the point of winning 3-0? I rather win 5-2, it brings confidence to the players.

"You can get 3-0 and boast about clean sheets. There are so many teams who win 1-0, it's not enough we need to score more.

"The good thing this team has got goals. Last year we were second after Pirates and this year we are scoring. People come to the stadium and want to see goals. Goals win you leagues and you can't sit back."

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
