Pitso: Forget beautiful football

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane insists winning is more important than playing good football at this stage of the season, following their 3-1 victory over Polokwane City on Wednesday.

A brace from Leonardo Castro and a beautiful strike from Keagan Dolly saw the Brazilians cement their place at the top of the Premiership standings, as they boast a four-point lead over second-placed Bidvest Wits.

The former Bafana Bafana coach admits it was a tough battle against the relegation-threatened Polokwane side, as they were forced to change their style of play for the better part of the game, before adding that how you win is not important at this stage of the campaign.

"It was a very difficult game against Polokwane, a very physical game, but at this point in time you just have to win and continue," said Mosimane.

"Forget about beautiful football. Keagan scored a beautiful goal for us, that was it.

"It was not easy, Polokwane were strong and physical."

Mosimane was also pleased with the contribution made by some of the fringe players he included in his starting line-up, as he continues to rotate his charges ahead of their busy April schedule.

"I’m happy that we brought in fresh legs - [Tiyani] Mabunda, Bangaly [Soumahoro] to the starting XI, we gave [Katlego] Mashego a run, Teko Modise has not been playing so we gave him a run - so we can freshen up the team and try and save legs.

"We have another one on Saturday, and it’s a difficult one [against Cosmos], and then Wednesday we have Vita again. So we have to grind and just keep quiet and get the results."
