Cape Town - Orlando Pirates defender Abbubaker Mobara feels that the Buccaneers have it in them to mount a late challenge for the league title.
The Buccaneers have spent much of the season tucked behind the leading pack. And currently sitting seven points behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, after they came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw with Polokwane City last weekend, they certainly cannot be counted out of the race.
Mobara is confident that there is enough character in the Pirates squad to put the title contenders under pressure as the season heads into the final couple of months.
"We will end the season strongly. I believe in our players, the character and attitude we have, I think we will chase the top [position]," he said.
"A new coach has come in with a new philosophy, new style of play and that is what is important. We have to take what they are teaching us and put it in the field.
"We are working hard, we are doing our homework and that's what we have to do to improve.
"I'm not even looking at (finishing) second or third, I'm looking at first (position). That is what we want to chase," the former Ajax Cape Town player concluded.
The Soweto giants are next against Platinum Stars on Saturday at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium
Kick-off is at 15:30.
