Pirates to face Stars in Maize Cup

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates will continue to ramp up preparations for the new season when they face Platinum Stars in the Maize Cup at the Moruleng Stadium on Saturday.

Bucs have been inconsistent in pre-season and will no doubt be looking for a good performance against Stars.

Muhsin Ertugral has stressed that his team need to work on their defending after some uncertain showings at the back in pre-season.

Meanwhile, Stars are the defending champions and will likely start out as slight favourites.

Dinaledi finished third in the Premiership last season and use the Moruleng Stadium as their alternate home venue.

North West Province officials are promoting the competition as a means to grow the province's brand.

Spokesperson Brian Setswambung said: "Through this Maize Cup, the provincial government seeks to provide an opportunity to all soccer loving citizens from the province and beyond, to enjoy a thrilling day of entertaining soccer and that contributes to efforts to rebrand, reposition and renew the province."

The action gets underway from 15:00 with local fans no doubt expecting a spectacle of some good football.
