Pieterse explains Chiefs departure

Cape Town - SuperSport United bound Reyaad Pieterse revealed that he told coach Steve Komphela about his desire for regular game-time before his exit from Kaizer Chiefs.

The former Chiefs goalkeeper jumped ship to join Matsatsantsa after coming up the ranks at Naturena.

The 24-year-old admits that it was a challenge at Amakhosi to compete with Itumeleng Khune and Brilliant Khuzwayo for a starting berth.

"I did speak to Steve because he was always asking me, 'When you signing your contract?' I told him all I wanted was to play," Pieterse told Soccer Laduma.

"Of course, competing with the best goalkeepers in the country was not going to be that easy. He needed to balance things out because the fans are demanding and the results weren't coming our way.

"There was a lot of pressure on coach Steve as well and I don't blame him for the decisions he made because, at the end of the day, he's the head coach. I had to respect every decision that he made."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
