Johannesburg - Wits confirmed they ended their interest in signing Black Leopards’ Siphelele Ntshangase, as soon as they landed Steven Pienaar's signature.
The Clever Boys were reportedly interested in the 24-year-old Bafana international once the 2016/17 campaign ended, however, they could not agree to terms with Leopards which then prompted the decision to make a move for Pienaar.
The former Everton and Bafana star, now 35, was confirmed as a Student around a month ago, and the club's Chief Executive Officer, Jose Ferreira, confirmed that talks ended with Lidoda Duvha once 'Schillo' had put pen to paper with the reigning Premiership champions.
"We did want Ntshangase before, but once we got Pienaar we stopped pursuing him," Ferreira told Soccer Laduma.
I"f there's anyone still linking us with a move with the player then someone is trying to push a good deal for themselves using our name."
Reports suggest that Ntshangase could be on the verge of a move to Kaizer Chiefs, although no official confirmation has been made just yet of a deal going through.
The player is highly rated and is a Bafana Bafana international.
Meanwhile, the PSL champions will start their title defence against Cape Town City on Friday at Bidvest Stadium.
