Petersen back in action for Ajax

Cape Town - Ajax Cape Town goalkeeper Brandon Petersen will play his first match in a year when he turns out for the club in a friendly game against National First Division side Santos on Tuesday.

The highly-rated keeper suffered a horrific broken leg in a Premier Soccer League loss to Mamelodi Sundowns on December 20.

It has been a long and painful road to recovery for the 21-year-old, who many see as a future Ajax and Bafana Bafana No 1.

This will be a giant step-forward in his rehabilitation and should he come through unscathed will be in contention or first team football when Ajax resume their league campaign after the festive season break with a home clash against Bloemfontein Celtic on January 8.

The Urban Warriors are well-stocked in the goalkeeper department with Finnish international Anssi Jaakkola also on their books, along with current South African Under-23 star Jody February.

Also playing in the friendly match is Ghana international defender Lawrence Lartey, who is waiting for his work permit before he can start his PSL career.
