Palacios: Players need to have more hunger

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates coach Augusto Palacios has slammed his players for not living up to the legacy of what it means to play for a big club.

The Peruvian was seemingly incensed after seeing his side lose at the death to Bloemfontein Celtic in Tuesday's Premiership clash.

The 64-year-old didn't mince his words at the post-match press conference. He said: "A team like Pirates needs players who are hungry and want to perform for Pirates. Players who will die on the field.

"We have too many new players who don't understand what it means to be here. We need players with character for a big team.

"The players need to have more hunger. They need to understand where they are and are not playing just for a salary.

"Tomorrow I can't go in the street because of the loss. I love this team. These players lose and they eat, laugh and sing. Why?

"We've lost our soul as football. Players of old, Fani Madida, Eric Tinkler, they are gone. People don't love the game like that anymore."
