Ovono grateful for Pirates recall

Cape Town - Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Felipe Ovono was delighted to make his comeback to the first team after being recalled from the transfer list.

Ovono was placed on the chopping block at the end of last season, prior to the arrival of coach Muhsin Ertugral.

However, Ovono found favour in Ertugral, who has roped him back into the fold ahead of the new season.

The Equatorial Guinea international produced a brilliant performance against Platinum Stars in the Bokone Bophirima Maize Cup at Moruleng Stadium on Saturday.

"I am very happy to be back with the team, I am ready to train hard and try to help the club do well this season," Ovono told KickOff.

"I was happy to save those penalties. I trained with the team two days before the tournament. The coach told me that I will play the other 45 minutes.

"I am happy for the whole team and the win will give us confidence for the new season."

Ovono will compete for the number one jersey with Brighton Mhlongo, Siyabonga Mabokgwane and new signing Jackson Mabokgwane.

No! I think the smart thing to do is start again with a younger skipper ...

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
