Onyango: It's down to self-belief

Cape Town - Newly-crowned Premiership Goalkeeper of the season Denis Onyango is happy that he kept the faith and remained with Mamelodi Sundowns over the years.

The 31-year-old beat Shu-Aib Walters of Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits' Moeneeb Josephs to clinch his first PSL individual accolade at the league's end of the season awards on Monday night.

Having considered leaving the Brazilians due to a lack of game-time in the past, the Uganda international is glad that he waited for his chance in the first team.

"It's down to self-belief," Onyango told KickOff. "The former keeper coach who was around from Spain [Jon Pascua] also believed in me and told me I would get my chance and must just keep working hard.

"It's fantastic. It's amazing that after 10 years in the PSL I got the Goalkeeper of the Season; it means a lot to me."
