Nkosi impressed with Chiefs' new recruits

Johannesburg - Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Siyabonga Nkosi admits that he is really impressed with the club's new signings.

The Soweto giants unveiled eight new faces in Naturena last week and Nkosi believes that the Amakhosi will compete for silverware in the upcoming 2016/17 season.

Following a mass exodus of Amakhosi players early in June and to fill the void Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Sibusiso Khumalo, Keagan Buchanan, Enocent Mkhabela, Edmore Chirambadare, Emmanuel Letlotlo and Lewis Macha were unveiled at a packed press conference.

Nkosi, 34, said that former Chicken Inn FC of Zimbabwe duo Chirambadare and Macha would be key to watch this coming season and he is aware of the impacts they will make at Chiefs.

The former Bafana Bafana play maker also hailed the Amakhosi management for taking a big step and put their money on new talents and also retaining few of the senior players in the team.

“At the end of the day, there have to be some new talents at the club and I’m happy to see the club bringing new faces,” Nkosi told Sport24.

“But the core of some senior players remained and that will bring a lot of positives because of their experience with the team.

“I’m most excited to see those players signed from Chicken Inn because they will make positive impacts as well.

“I’m saying this because I have seen them play against Sundowns in the CAF Champions league and they are the players to watch.

“Again I’m happy to see Sibusiso Khumalo at Chiefs too; I believe that his arrival came at the right time when the cover for Tshepo (Masilela) is needed so he is a perfect signing as well.

“Ramahlwe Mphahlele will bring plenty of experience in the team as well after leading Sundowns to the league title, so up to this stage I’m really impressed with the new Chiefs signings.”

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
