'Next season will be better for Chiefs'

Cape Town - Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Gert Schalkwyk believes the club will do well next season, after chairman Kaizer Motaung promised to open the chequebook for Steve Komphela to sign new players.

On Monday the Amakhosi boss came out in support of the former Free State Stars coach as he promised to keep Komphela at Naturena for at least two more seasons to rebuild his team, following a disastrous debut season as Amakhosi's head coach.

"I think the good thing is that Brother Kaizer has made a confession about the club’s struggles this season and the news to buy new players," Schalkwyk told Goal website.

"That should have been music to the ears of the Amakhosi supporters as they have not stopped complaining about the lack of quality players at the club.

"I also believe that things will be a bit better next season with Steve given the money to bring his own players."

Schalkwyk says that the likes of Bongani Ndulula and Edward Manqele are failing to make any contribution to the club.

Meanwhile, Chiefs are set face Mpumalanga Black Aces on Tuesday, April 11 in an Absa Premiership tie as they look to solidify their place in the top four.

Kick-off is at 19:30.
