Naicker brushes off Bafana snub

Cape Town - Jomo Cosmos goalkeeper Sherwyn Naicker remains hopeful that his time will still come in terms of getting a call-up to the Bafana Bafana squad.

Naicker has been in superb form for Ezenkosi all season long with his saves keeping the club in with a chance of avoiding relegation.

But instead of rewarding Naicker for his domestic form, national team coach Shakes Mashaba elected to call up Itumeleng Khune, Jackson Mabokgwane and Darren Keet for the upcoming back-to-back AFCON 2017 qualifying games against Cameroon.

Naicker has however played down the snub, claiming he is happy to focus on helping Cosmos ease their relegation concerns with the club currently three points above the drop zone after a shock 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs on Tuesday night.

"It would have been nice to gain that kind of recognition especially the way things have been going for me in the league," Naicker told Goal.

"If it does happen obviously it would be a great achievement for me because it's something that I have always wanted. At the moment, I am just focusing on pushing with Cosmos and hoping that Cosmos can keep up in the PSL," he added.
