Mulenga will be successful at Buccaneers

Cape Town - Experienced Absa Premiership campaigner Clifford Mulenga has backed countryman Augustine Mulenga to be a big hit at Orlando Pirates.

Augustine joined the Buccaneers in the January transfer window from Lusaka-based club Zanaco on a three-year contract and is expected to inject fresh impetus into the Pirates attack as soon as he recovers from a knee injury he picked up during training.

Clifford Mulenga, who is currently at National First Division side Jomo Cosmos but previously played for the likes of AmaTuks, Black Aces, Ajax Cape Town, Bloemfontein Celtic and SuperSport United, has no doubt his fellow Zambian international will prove a success at the Soweto giants.

"As much as we are not related I know him very well. He's a potent finisher and very obsessed about scoring goals," he told SowetanLIVE

"He was one of the best players in the Zambian league. I like his style of play a lot because he also creates goals.

"Augustine will make a big impact at Pirates because I believe joining a team of Pirates' calibre was his dream. He cannot afford to squander this big opportunity. He knows what is expected from him even back in Zambia."

Pirates have had some legendary Zambian players at the club in the past - the likes of Dennis Lota and Isaac Chansa for example, and Mulenga becomes the second Chipolopolo player at the club after Justin Shonga joined earlier in the season.

"Shonga has already endeared himself to Pirates fans and he will help Mulenga adapt quick. They have played together at the national team and they are also close," said the Mulenga from Cosmos.

"I am happy to see our players coming over because the SA league is very big on the continent. It is a great platform for our players to be seen by European clubs."
