Motaung: I played for Pirates at 16

Cape Town - Kaizer Chiefs chairman and founder Kaizer Motaung has explained how he started out his career at Orlando Pirates during the early years of his playing days.

After leaving Bucs, he eventually formed the Glamour Boys in 1970 and the club has since gone on to become arguably the biggest team in South Africa.

However, it could all have been so different had Motaung not left Pirates when he did.

"I played for Pirates first team from the age of 16," he told KickOff website.

"I was in the junior side with Pirates but at 16 I gradually got into the first team.

"When I played for Pirates in the SA Soccer League there was a clash because I was also playing for Orlando High School, which was also affiliated to play there, but in the second division."

His form for the Sea Robbers eventually saw him scouted by North American Soccer League side Atlanta Chiefs, where he was named Rookie of the Year in his first season.

It was this experience with the Chiefs that prompted him to later name Amakhosi by the same title, with the addition of his own first name.

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
