Mosimane sings Modise's praises

Cape Town - Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has once again expressed his admiration for the influence midfielder Teko Modise has on the squad.

This season Modise has played a supporting role at Sundowns with the likes of Bongani Zungu and Siyanda Zwane preferred in the more attacking positions but, while he may no longer have his youthful exuberance, Mosimane feels the 33-year-old still has lot to contribute.

"Teko is special. When you talk about Teko he is a special player... those guys you don't have them easily. Where you going to get them?," Mosimane told KickOff.

"Teko has his own way of playing. He is talented, he is special, and you can see when he is in the team. He is influential and is a very good football player.

"Like Khama Billiat, he is very influential in our attack and you can never underestimate them, just like Kermit Erasmus was influential for Pirates in attack.

"At Sundowns he used to be number 10 for Johan Neeskens (previous coach), but I felt he is not getting younger because there you have to sprint into the box and go everywhere.

"I felt when he plays at eight and Hlompho Kekana as six, he will give us more brains and experience and he has done exceptionally well for us in the last two years in that position."

I'd keep Siya captain for now, but look to have someone else for 2027.
