Mosimane, Komphela ready for epic midweek clash

Cape Town - Pitso Mosimane and Steve Komphela face-off in a midweek Premiership battle, as their Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns charges clash.

The match at Loftus Versfeld Stadium sees Masandawana looking for a third successive league win, while Amakhosi have claimed four points from their last three outings and are sixth on the standings, one place behind Sundowns.

The Soweto giants are currently battling an injury crisis, with Gustavo Paez and right-back Kgotso Moleko the latest casualties on a list which also includes Tsepo Masilela, Lorenzo Gordinho, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Emmanuel Letlotlo, Sibusiso Khumalo and Teenage Hadebe.

And it promises to be a challenging week for Chiefs, who also play arch-rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday. A couple of positive results though would give the Glamour Boys a huge lift.

"As much as you see players are putting enough effort, they are getting there, you need to get results," Komphela told KickOff website.

"We need to get results so that we get our confidence back. There are a lot of pluses which unfortunately have been overshadowed by results.

"In a game of football, you could have little to celebrate without results. With no results it kills everything."

Sundowns, meanwhile, will be looking to mount a strong title challenge - not only did they lose their league crown to Wits last season, but their recent elimination from the CAF Champions League will see coach Mosimane turning his full attention to the domestic scene.

"It's always going to be a big match. It will be a little bit difficult for us because we are playing them right after Chiefs lost to Baroka FC," Mosimane told  the club's official website.

"There is a lot that has been written about them that they need to turn things around, that this is the time to do that and they need to stop conceding goals at the end and all those things.

"We are aware that it's going to be difficult. But irrespective of that, it is going to be an 'A' game. We respect them."

Unlike his compatriot, Mosimane has the bulk of his squad available, including the recent return from injury of Khama Billiat.

Kick off is at 19:30.
